Dressings in both groins are waterproof, so showering is ok. Please notify me if you notice worsening swelling, bleeding, redness or discharge from the groin wounds. A low-grade temperature is normal after this procedure, and patients may feel they have a mild ‘flu’ for several days.
Walking is recommended from the first day after the operation. Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting for two weeks after the operation. Do not drive a car for one week after the operation.
You will be given an appointment for an ultrasound scan which should be performed about 4-6 weeks after the procedure. The results will be reviewed at your follow-up visits at 6 weeks.
Open Aneurysm Repair
It may take up to six weeks after the operation before your energy levels and appetite return to normal. Walking is recommended, but avoid heavy lifting or straining for the first six weeks. You will be given an appointment to see me for review approximately six weeks after going home. Please notify me if you develop fever, wound redness or discharge or pain in the legs.
