Carotid Surgery (Post-Op)

Carotid Surgery (Post-Op)
Open Surgery
The dressing on the neck wound is waterproof so showering is ok. Remove the dressing after 3-5 days and the wound can be left exposed. Avoid heavy training/lifting for two weeks after the operation. An ultrasound of the carotid arteries is required around 6 weeks after the operation and a review appointment will be made for you after this.
Usually, it is necessary to have regular reviews by your vascular surgeon to ensure the carotid arteries remain clear in the years ahead.

Carotid stenting

The dressing on the groin can be removed after one day, and the wound left exposed. Please notify me if you notice worsening swelling or pain in the groin.
Usually, you will be required to take aspirin and clopidogrel tablets for at least six weeks.
An ultrasound of the carotid arteries is required around 6 weeks after the procedure and a review appointment will be made for you after this.
